SFSCON 2023
The South Tyrol Free Software Conference (SFSCON) is a conference in South Tyrol that takes place every year in November. As you might have already guessed, the topic is: Free Software! It has always been a tradition at SFSCON to award a prize — and this year is no exception. In the past years, the SFSAWARD has always been given to a person who has made a great contribution to Free Software in South Tyrol. The year 2023 marked the first award of the European SFSAWARD — an award on a European level.

For me, it was an honor to be part of the jury and to hand over the first award to a person who has made a great contribution to Free Software. Frank Karlitschek is the founder and CEO of Nextcloud GmbH. With over 24,000 stars on GitHub, Nextcloud is the open source alternative for cloud collaboration. Frank gratefully accepted the award on behalf of the Nextcloud community and the hard-working minds behind the software.
Nextcloud would not have become what it is today if it weren’t for the community behind it. For this reason, thank you for this great software and keep up the good work!
